Character Name: Grace “Gracie” Elizabeth Craven
Height: 5’6/ 7’2
Weight: 136 lbs/287 lbs
Age: 29 years
Gender: Female
Novel: The Werewolf of Paris (Original character)
Plot of Novel: Bertrand Caillet, the product of a lecherous priest with a sinister family history raping a French peasant girl in the early 1850s. Caillet is later raised by Aymar Galliez, the nephew of the woman who had hired the peasant girl as a maid, and his notes on Caillet, purportedly found many years later by the author, form the kernel of this tale. It does not take Aymar long to realize that something is decidedly wrong with his young charge; in fact, Caillet is a werewolf, who loves nothing more than leaping out of his bedroom window at night and killing livestock and assorted wayfarers around the countryside. Years later, as a young man, Caillet runs away to Paris, to continue his depredations in a more populous arena. Grace was just one of his many victims, but she managed to escape with her life.
Author of Novel: Guy Endore
Physical Description: Suffering from Heterochromia iridium, Grace has mismatching eyes. Her left is an opaque blue with flecks of cerulean that lighten around the outer iris while her right remains a warm liquid brown. Her gaze is mournful and magnetic that would better suit a wolf set in a contrasting youthful face. She has the look of a pouting child with full lips and traces of baby fat that refuse to melt away. Pallid skin tone, natural from wearing dark clothing. Chocolate brown hair with hints of auburn and gold, mid back length with a slight curl to it. Average height with average weight, her skin is unmarred by any muscle definement, having more of a rounded figure. Grace could be considered pretty if not for her few oddities and the distinct scar on her chin from when she fell as a child.
Her full physical shift form is 42” from the shoulder, 7’ from tip of tail to nose with a paw size of 5” Her half shift in a more bipedal figure stands her a little over 7’ and 287 lbs. Her figure is reminiscent of a mixed breed. Her ears are pointed taking after a timber side, while her longer legs and broad feet take from tundra traits. Her fur is thick and lush colored like her hair, a chocolate brown with hints of burgundy and auburn. She retains her oddly mismatched eyes.
Attire: Wearing the clothing of the Edwardian era, she may be a little behind in the latest fashions. Grace’s wardrobe consists of traveling suits and afternoon gowns. While Edwardian dresses are getting shorter every year, Grace has opted to keep the long length past her ankles. Her traveling dresses are mostly wool and often darker colors with lace up leather boots but she prefers her gowns to be of light pastel colors and lace. Blue being her favorite color she always has a splash of it, along with her white gloves and parasol. She wears large brimmed hats decorated with satin and silk flowers tied securely around her neck. She wears her mother’s golden cross and still carries her wedding ring on her right hand. At night when she has to shift, she is forced to wear far less then she’s comfortable with, opting for long black robes that keeps her both functionally warm and covered until she sheds her clothing to shift. She has lost more dresses then she can count
Personality: At first meeting; Grace can be reserved and conservative; a very prim and proper lady but she grew up with four brothers. Not to anger quickly which can be a good thing, has a wonderful sense of humor and takes most things in stride. She’s rather an enigmatic character; one side of her is forgiving and kind while the other can be animalistic in nature. When she shifts and kills, there is no remorse. She is a woman trapped within the late 18th century ways, hindered by the right to vote, to be seen as a housewife or a pretty object when all she wants to do is break away from the mold society has created. Because of this; she is in a sense two different people.
History: Grace is a widow of seven years. Her husband Richard and family were killed by a unnamed creature that also took several lives one foggy night in London. Eyewitness’s say they saw a large wolf like creature, dark shadows and the sounds of howling throughout the night. In the morning, there were 9 confirmed deaths all related to one another. Grace had gone to bed that night with a terrible fever, a stray large dog had attacked her a few days ago in Paris during a trip and she insisted she was fine and just needed some rest. All she received was a small bite wound on the back of her leg; the creature had been driven off by her husband.
Throughout the night she was plagued by nightmares of wolves, excruciating pain and a intense fever. In the morning, the pain was gone but she found herself alone in her bed, her night clothes shredded and covered in blood. Not knowing what to think, she called the police after she couldn’t find her husband. She later found out he had been murdered. Horrified she spent the next night with her family and again she was plagued by nightmares, pain and a fever. Awakening the next morning, she found herself in the same state the previous morning only this time she found her brothers laying around her room, all been attacked by some large creature.
The police ruled it out as murder, Grace’s husband was a powerful man in politics and he had his enemies. When Grace had gone to be her family, the murderers tracked her down as well, her brothers laying around her proved they had fought off the attackers in order to save their sister. This never settled right with Grace but she stayed in London, living in her husband’s home alone. Richard was an avid reader and kept a large library full of old antique books ranging from Science to Fantasy. In her time alone she found herself finding new things, such as how much more brighter the day was, or how the gardens smelled more lovely.
Two years after her family’s death she was cleaning her husbands library when she stumbled upon an old fairy tale book. Idly flipping through it, a story leapt out at her about the legendary Wolf Man. Drawn to it, she read a few pages before a chill filled the room, startled she placed the book back upon the shelf and went on with her cleaning. For nights, all she thought about was the book and the story and once again the nightmares of wolves came back to haunt her. Again she found herself night after night with shredded bed clothes and covered in blood. Over the years she had grown apart from many of her friends and she could not go to anyone for help for fear of being locked away in a mental institute or jail.
Stowing away in her husband’s library she found he had many books about Werewolves, Lycanthropy and Theriomorph. She poured over textbooks, documentaries and stories learning about Shifters and she came to realize, with horror and bewilderment that she may be one of these creatures. She then shifted her studies to Science to find a more better understanding of what she was and to find a cure.
She is regretful for what she has become, she believes she is cursed for something that she had done. Though she had learn to control her abilities, when the full moon rises she is unable to contain the beast inside her and the newspaper tell of her terror she had inflicted on the people of London. She doesn’t believe she can be of any importance to the world in her state but she tries with whatever she can do, the deaths of her family keeps her going.
Over the years she has trained herself to control her newfound abilities; such as partial shifting, keeping a voice box in lupus form, the 5 known shifts, and to keep her animalistic nature at bay. Being a Shifter is not all peaches and cream. It has great benefits, yet is a lot of work. It is not something to be taken lightly, for it will probably be difficult or impossible to get your inner animal permanently asleep again. It forces one to suffer through a lot of emotional and spiritual growth. Like going though puberty, it is a bittersweet mixture of trials, challenges, exciting new discoveries, pure hell, and constant longing to get it over with. Balance is hard. Grace has learned this the hard way.
Physical Shifts Four-footed and completely indistinguishable from a real Wolf. They tend to be noticeably larger than the average real Wolf, but otherwise there is no difference. Werewolves may occasionally turn up in a partially transformed state. In either shift can take time and can be painful, often becoming disorientated afterwards.
Non-Physical Shifts There may be some physical changes, such as blood pressure, involved here, but nothing very out of the ordinary. Non-Physical Shifts are mental and can be straining on the shifter. If they do not keep a hold of their human self, they can go insane.
Astral Shifting Is where the Shifter goes into the spirit world (astral plane) and Shifts there.
Dream Shifting Is where the Shifter is a wolf in their dreams, or where the Shifter changes physically in their dreams.
Mental Shifting Mental Shifting is a word used to mean any Non-Physical Shift, so someone claiming to have mentally shifted may be talking about any kind of Non-Physical Shift. Again, somewhat straining mentally.
Spirit Shifting Has more than one meaning. Those for whom being a Shifter is a very spiritual thing may call mental shifting spirit shifting. The other thing is that some Werewolves mentally shift by channeling a Wolf Spirit or a Shifting Spirit into their body in much the same way that a regular channeler can channel a guardian angel, an astral entity, or someone's dead relative.
